Asus has unveiled the U36SD which is being marketed as the world’s thinnest notebook to use a standard Intel i5 processor Sandy Bridge i5-2410M. Up till now ultra-thin notebooks have used low voltage processors to allow for a decent battery life. With the use of a standard i5 CPU some people might worry that the battery would be pretty dreadful but Asus claims that their new notebook has 11 hours of battery life.

The laptop weighs 1.44kgs and is made of 19mm thick lightweight magnesium alloy with a nanometer coating which helps the notebook repel dirt, water and fingerprints.

The machine uses the Asus Super Hybrid Engine and come with USB 3.0. It has an Nvidia GPU which uses the Optimus technology to help extend the battery life. The screen of the new laptop is a 13.3’ HD TFT with a 1366×768 native resolution. Asus has also installed integrated WiFi (b/g/n) and a five in one card reader. The U36 is now in stores in the UK and is being sold for £699.
