TEAC X-01 D2, the SACD player for the masses

If you have an extra 9,700.00 euros on your account… this is the Xmas gift you need!
The X-01 D2 is a SACD (Super Audio CD) player which is in fact an enhanced P-03 model from the TEAC ESOTERIC range. Besides the VRDS-NEO reading technology, the player also has the SACD AS1955 (Multibit Sigma-Delta DAC) chipset, the PCM1704 (Texas Instrument SoundPlus 24-Bit, 96kHz BiCMOS Sign-Magnitude DAC) chipset, and an iLink port.

Seriously, almost 10,000 euros for this? I can’t see how it’s justified…

I bet that it sounds great. I’ve only listened to one ~€10k CD-player and it was a Linn. But I can see why rich audiophiles would by products like this. Yes indeed we normal people would be better spending perhaps €500-1000 on a “good” CD-player (or DVD). But then we don’t have equipment to match a €10k one.
