Hot from the udder: China makes cows produce breast milk

Hot from the udder: China makes cows produce breast milk

This is no joke, although it sounded like one when we first came across this news article but China actually genetically modified a dairy cow’s genes to produce genuine breast milk.

Chinese scientists modified these dairy cows to produce human breast milk in the hope to selling it in supermarkets within 3 years. The actual milk produced is an exact replica of the milk found in human mother milk and has all the immune-boosting and anibacterial qualities like the natural product. In total 300 of these cows were implanted/bred. The process consisted in inserting human genes into the cow embryo which were implanted into surrogate cows. The technology used was fairly similar to what was used to create Dolly the sheep.

The milk is still undergoing various safety tests, but within government permission it will be sold to consumers as a more nutritious dairy drink than regular cow’s wilk. Scientists claim it’s sweeter and stronger in flavor than the bovine stuff.

This milk will mainly target babies to growing teens, the elderly  and men with a preggy fetish;)

  • Wtf

Sure I would feed my baby the milk of a genetically modified cow to replicate breast milk………………

You would if your wife couldn’t produce enough breast milk and your kid was dying of malnutrition in some third world country.

    • Wtf

You are right, between sure death and that I would try that :)

Yes if this “food” could be delivered without cost for the people that need it. But:
      1) this food will be copyrighted, as the great pharmaceutical companies do, so it will be not so cheap.
      2) this food will be produced by a genetically modified animal, without any prediction about the effects on babies. Becouse, offcourse, you can not use babies as test animals.

Open your eyes, open your mind. This kind of things are NOT the solution for the world famine, but they will generate more speculation and starvation.
