This is no joke, although it sounded like one when we first came across this news article but China actually genetically modified a dairy cow’s genes to produce genuine breast milk.

Chinese scientists modified these dairy cows to produce human breast milk in the hope to selling it in supermarkets within 3 years. The actual milk produced is an exact replica of the milk found in human mother milk and has all the immune-boosting and anibacterial qualities like the natural product. In total 300 of these cows were implanted/bred. The process consisted in inserting human genes into the cow embryo which were implanted into surrogate cows. The technology used was fairly similar to what was used to create Dolly the sheep.

The milk is still undergoing various safety tests, but within government permission it will be sold to consumers as a more nutritious dairy drink than regular cow’s wilk. Scientists claim it’s sweeter and stronger in flavor than the bovine stuff.
