Panasonic HDC-SD1, the first AVCHD camcorder with an SD card

Remember, we recently announced a new HD video camera supporting the AVCHD H.264 format with SDHC cards. Today, Panasonic unveiled the HDC-SD1, the final product based on the concept presented at the CEATEC! There are plenty of features! The camcorder has a 3CCD sensor, 1080i FULL HD (1920×1080) video recording capabilities (Sony only does 1440×1080), Dolby 5.1 audio recording capabilities synchronized on the zoom (the more you zoom, the more the audio will be focused on the subject), HDMI support, 3 different VBRs (6, 9 and 13Mbps). You will have 40mn of video on a 4GB SDHC at 13Mbps, 90mn at 6Mbps. The camcorder measures 74x69x142mm and weights 430g without its battery.
Panasonic will also offer the VW-PT2-S, a 40GB external hard disk to save your videos recorded on an SD card.
A similar model will be available with DVD-R recording capabilities instead of SD recording.

This is a major product that surprisingly didn’t seem to excite the Japanese journalists much… The camcorder should start selling in December at a price of 1,300.00 euros. Until then, here’s a video and 18 photos for you!

    > Sony only does 1440×1080

Sony’s AVCHD-based cameras (HDR-SR1 and HDR-UX1) do full HD just like the Panasonic. It is only the HDV-based HDR-HC3 that records at 1440×1080 (as per the HDV specification).

No Scott, the HDR-C1, A1, Z1 and FX1 are recording in 1440×1080, and even the last FX7 and its PRO version….

Well, they’re all HDV camcorders so that’s what you’d expect. Not that it really matters too much though. As I’m sure you know, resolution isn’t the only thing that determines picture quality in camcorders.

Yepp it does not matter for us, and until recently all Akihabara News video where taken from a SONY HDV Cam in 1440×1080… so… But the CCD, optic and LIGHT A LOT OF LIGHT is mandatory
