[Hands-On] Fujitsu Loox F-07C, the world first ATOM powered Smartphone

[Hands-On] Fujitsu Loox F-07C, the world first ATOM powered Smartphone

We heard rumors of a possible Dual Mode PC/Phone from Fujitsu the F-07C, and today both Docomo and Fujitsu made the impossible possible with the world first dual mode PC/Phone running on an Intel ATOM CPU!

The F-07C is first and foremost an ultra compact Tablet like PC with a slide-out QUEWRTY Keyboard and trackball in an ultra compact body (125x61x19.8mm) for just 218g, featuring a 1.2 ATOM CPU, a 4” touchscreen with a 600×1024 resolution, a 5Mpix rear camera and a 0.32Mpix front one, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of SSD 9eMMC) WIfi BGN, Bluetooth… And a dual Smartphone mode running on Symbian.

Technically speaking this F-07C is a pure marvel, and to our surprise, the F-07C is also a usable little computer that was running Window 7 pretty dram well!
Sure it won’t run the latest FPS of being capable to handle HD Video editing properly or watching 1080p HD video neither, but think of it as your portable, always ready little always connected computer capable in just a click to be used as a phone and once at in your hotel room or office become a fully capable ATOM Desktop thanks to its little cradle (USB, HDMI, Ethernet…)

We all dreamed of something like this and finally Fujitsu did it… Impressive! But now the question is that we are all asking ourselves… What about the battery life of this little thing, how much will it cost and why Symbian?

Symbian was propably chosen for the battery life.
It’s much more efficient powerwise than android iOS

Yes, I think that could be the reason.

Symbian might be the most efficient smartphone OS at the moment, and the usual problems associated with it are with UI. It is also reasonalby popular in Japan so there is expertise. Japanese Symbian’s usually have had their own UI version, not the bashed S60 based or S^3 that are more common elsewhere.

      Some other possible reasons:
The underlying OS, due to its long history, is also very feature rich so makes sense to choose it for a UMPC type of phone.
Microsoft might not have liked the idea of Android ( or other Linux kernel based OS variant ) on the same phone with Windows.

THis is great to see, but at this point I’d wait for Windows 8 before getting a phone that runs Windows.
