What is always totally amazing when new phones are coming up in Japan is that we’re not just talking about 2 or 3 phones, but usually more than 10 at the same time! I seriously doubt there’s a real need to do so and so often. Nevertheless, DoCoMo offers 14 new phones:

- SIMPURE L1, slightly ticker but with 3G and GSM
- P903iX, with HSDPA, WMV9 and 8 compatibiliy
- F903iX, with HSDPA, 10MB of memory, H.264 compatible
- SH903iTV, the AQUOS TV phone with a 3” display and 1Seg
- P903iTV, with 1Seg and 5h battery life when watching video
- D903iTV, with 1Seg, TV recording capabilities, 512MB of memory
- SO903i, with MP3 player, a 3” BRAVIA display (check yesterday’s news on this topic)
- SH903i, with audio SD and WMA compatibility
- P903i, with audio SD, Bluetooth, A2DP, 70 hours battery life when playing MP3s
- N903i, with a 3Mpix camera and VGA display

This is all very nice, but when are docomo actually going to use the bandwidth their phones are so famouse for?

So far newer models only offer slightly better functions. Functions that really have nothing to do with a phones broadband conection. Megapixel cams, MP3 players, Word/excell readers, and now WMV9 and H.264?

NONE of these funcitons need a G3 conection making these phones nothng more than NTT PDA’s (with smaller screens)

Because of this im thinking of chaning from Docomo to Willcom. At least their phones allow for full web browsing with internet explorer. (an acutally usefull mobile phone function…)
