Let me ask you a million dollar question: why oh why a mono amplifier? If Marantz sells such a product above 5000 euros, that means:

1) people are willing to buy
2) the price must be justified somehow
3) it is useful for some purpose

I use a mono amp to drive my buttkickers (http://www.thebuttkicker.com/). This is a bit of overkill though. It is probably very nice for a music 2-channel layout.
