Let’s Visit Tokyo – Ishigaki

Let’s Visit Tokyo – Ishigaki

Things are slowly going back to normal here in Japan and we hope to be able to soon resume our weekly “Let’s Visit Tokyo” series and to provide you with your weekly fix of video! Meanwhile here you are a rather long video I shot last week during my stay on the tiny island of Ishigaki (Okinawa) where sun, amazing white sand and blue water are the only things that really mater there.

Ishigaki is far less popular than Okinawa’s main island but start however to attract more and more people. Still Ishigaki is rather “untouched” and will deliver you this raw Okinawa experience that you are looking for. Without much or shall I say NO tourism background you will be force to carry along with you your food water and whatever you need if you want to spend hours on the beach and enjoy the see. There are of course some nice coffee shops or restaurants but most of them are usually around 10 to 20 minutes away from the best spot.
Still if you prefer the comfort of a nice hotel and all its convenience, Ishigaki host a Club Med, the ANA Intercontinental Hotel as well as my favorite the Ishigaki Seaside Hotel that I will make sure to visit this summer!

I spent a week in Ishigaki last year and loved it. Most of this video is actually on Taketomi island, which is a short boat ride from Ishigaki. It’s absolutely beautiful and a must visit. To see Ishigaki itself you’re going to need a hire car as it’s far too big to walk around, and there’s not much public transport.

Also make sure you can a) speak a bit of Japanese, as Ishigaki isn’t really set up for foreigners, and b) try some Souki Soba. It’s delicious.

Ishigaki Jima is a very beautiful island and it’s a long way from Tokyo. In fact it is very close to Taiwan.

Perhaps there are a lot of French people there now since they all ran away from Tokyo after the earthquake?
