A streetcar with batteries

Kawazaki Heavy Industry (KHI) announced last week they were developing a streetcar powered by Nickel Metal Hybrid (Ni-MH) batteries. The SWIMO, which is an acronym for SMOOTHLY WINS MOVER, seems to be able to run a distance of 10Km with a single battery charge. KHI hopes to implement this kind of streetcar in Japan as early as 2007.
