[Security Show 2011] Sony’s Felica and NFC Solutions

Contactless payment solutions in Japan are big, really big, and it is not surprising to see that Sony’s Felica comes as a major player in that matter. Available almost everywhere from the basic card to the mobile phone, sticker, bracelet and phone, Sony’s Felica service will now also be available for iPhones thanks to a set of back cover stickers that will give your iPhone basic contactless functions. Only supported by 3 major companies in Japan including Edy, WAON and nanaco, these e-Money Stickers can be purchased from Softbank stores in Japan and then later charged pretty much everywhere.

Sony’s Booth also included several set of Felica solution including flexible ones like the RC-S980F that will allow manufacturer to provide Felica e-payment service on soft/flexible material like tissue for example.

Alongside Felica’s technology, Sony also had several NFC or Near Field Communication solutions available in the shape of stickers to glue on posters of whatever you wants to compatible with not only Google Android 2.3 NFC compatible devices but as well as regular Japanese mobile phones.
