Everything on the NGP, Sony’s Next Generation Portable

Everything on the NGP, Sony’s Next Generation Portable

Ok, we are back at the office and it is now time to get to the bottom of this NGP thingy.

So the NGP will come later this year, and will be powered by not a single core but a Quad Core ARM Cortex AP CPU and a stunning SGX543MP4+ GPU. The NGP will come with a 5” touchscreen OLED Screen with a 960 x 544 Resolution, a rear mutlitouch touchpad, Dual Analog Sticks, 3G, WiFi, GPS, Dual Camera, Accelerometer and Gyroscope. While Sony did not specified who games will be loaded on the NGP, but its Memory Stick port may be the only way to get games.

What is really amazing with this NGP, and much more impressive than the 3DS for example is the limitless possibilities that the combo Touchpad, Touchscreen, Gyroscope and Accelerometer are going to add to games… Two of the most impressive demos where Uncharted, Little Deviant and Mina No Golf (Video Below).

Also, what will make life of devs easier is how easy it will be possible to port a PS3 Game to an NGP. We see some pretty impressive stuff demoed today and we can’t wait E3 to get more real games running. Bottom line, I am sure that the 3DS will sell well, but the NGP may finally what Sony’s was looking for to kick some serious ass in this very competitive world.

If it costs the same as the 3DS, I shall be in doubt which one is superiour and which one I will buy :)

Well knowing sony… and when they first release a new consol it’s probably going to be hella expensive compared to the 3ds. Look at it ps3′s price tag when it first came out $700+… hopefully they won’t make the psp2 the same price as a ps3

true true.. and since they know Iphones and the lot sell for up to 7-800dollar new (without contract), they’ll be thinking by themselves “oh, well i’m sure 550$ would be the sweetspot for the early adopters.” 3y later “us normal geek/people” can buy it for half that pricetag. **Remove the 3y later part when The 3th Birthday II or a new God of War comes out…

    id say $300 or more.

This thing has the same graphics ability as a PS3 and an OLED screen (which are still expensive)

One thing im wondering is the whole 3G docomo plan. Will it be compulsory? And will it mean that people wont be able to import from Japan?

Hey Daimaou, thanks for posting the only actual video of that press conference. I don’t understand why Sony isn’t releasing an official video of the whole press conference including English language translation dubbing when needed. If there actually is such a full press conference video online, someone please post the link!

The 3DS has a touch screen, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope…

You’r right, but by adding the touchpad behind the screen give another way to interact with games, something that the 3DS does not have.

Why don’t they add a phone into it (GSM or CDMA variants)?
