China to take over Japan, one company at a time, Lenovo to take control of NEC’s PC business.

It will be not surprising to see more and more Chinese company taking over Japanese companies asset or business entirely, and yesterday Reuters reports that NEC and Lenovo are in the final stage of talks to transfer NEC’s PC Business under Lenovo’s control.

With just 18% of the PC Business in Japan and almost inexistent overseas, NEC definitively need help when it comes to boost its market share in this very competitive world.

Luckily for NEC, the consumer PC business represent a small percentage of the company business activity and we still have a long way to go before Lenovo acquire NEC entirely.

NEC is still something like 6 or 7 times bigger than Lenovo. Lenovo merely bought a portion of NEC’s PC market – though they will continue to sell NEC computers. There is no way Lenovo could ever take over a giant like NEC. Honestly, this website sometimes…

Totally agree with Colin. I guess NEC decided to get rid of unprofitable assets. Just like IBM did some years ago.

You guys know so little when it comes to unprofitable business. I work for Lenovo and we have outpaced the industry by over 30% this past year and now have double digits in market share behind Dell. So we took a unprofitable business with IBM and made it very profitable.

It’s not profitable for IBM because they pay very good salary and obey every (well, maybe most) law.

That is not how China takes over countries .. It buys up their sovereign debt (bonds) .. it is the US which acquires countries by buying up their companies one at a time .. I would add stuff about using military power to enforce the deal but this isn’t the forum for that debate ..

Did I wrote that Lenovo would take over NEC? I believe I can read PC Business.
