LG Electronics Announces New Gaming Monitor

LG Electronics Announces New Gaming Monitor

Gone are the days when they were the company that makes washing machines. LG Electronics today announced their new monitor, the E2370V, geared specifically toward computer gamers.

The E2370V represents one of LG’s flagship products that utilize a new UH-IPS technology, a shift from the previous TN panels that dominated the company’s product line. Unlike the W2363D that went on sale in May last year with 3D support (at 120Hz refresh rate), the E2370V trades away the third dimension for the other gamer-oriented features packed into its 23-inch widescreen form: LED backlights Thru Mode, which eliminates signal input lag (and prevents you from dying in games, according to LG’s minimalist presentation); a user mode that automatically applies display modes (aspect ratio, high-quality upscaling, brightness) for different gaming and media experiences; and a Picture-in-Picture feature that places a secondary input in a small box in the corner – “for times when games bore you.” Additionally, this marks one of the rare instances where an LG monitor has a remote that enables one-touch mode selections.

23 inches diagonal, 1920×1080 pixels, 178-degree viewing angle both horizontally and vertically; supports HDMI, D-sub (15-pin), and DVI-D inputs. 556.2 x 174.8 x 412.7 mm (21.90 x 6.88 x 16.25 in) – with 20.6mm-wide bezels with a brushed design, a semi-transparent stand, and holes for mounting on walls – at 4.36 kg or 9.61 lbs.

Although not beautiful, this design is much better than the IPS236V which uses the same panel. I’m also glad to see it has physical buttons instead of the quirky touch ones. The new Super+ Resolution, Thru-mode, PIP, and remote are welcome features as well.

So it looks like I’ll be buying one. Thanks LG for improving your design and thanks AN for the pictures! ;)

The main problem with LG’s styling is that their stands never seem to match their bezels. Mismatching materials, colors, and shapes make things appear lower quality and awkward.
