That’s all well and good, but do manufacturers not bother to publish the pixel resolution of their display devices any more then? There are still flat panel TVs of that size being made at WXGA rez, which looks awful and chunky close-up despite being fine for viewing from across the room. Even 1080p would be just-about tolerable at normal PC using distance; 1920×1200 or higher would be preferable… thing is, we just don’t know from this…
The 8bit colour and advanced upscaling etc is very welcome (does it include sufficient intelligence to recognise and smoothly upscale subpixel-rendered text I wonder? normally that looks horrific when zoomed, as the enhanced detail turns into smudged colour fringes instead) but I can still generally cope with poor colour depth or scaling if the pixels are fine enough for other compensatory measures like dithering…

Also just what IS this vertical alignment stuff? I’ve tried finding out but all I discover are multiple sites parroting the same old press release as above, with no explanation. Are they made for portrait-aspect use with the RGB strips being rotated 90 degrees compared to “normal”? (Hence only seeing the bottom part of the frame in the released picture, not showing that the monitor is really tall?) … or are we talking the old school liquid crystal tech (inside the actual subpixels themselves) with less viewing angle & colour range than SIPS?
