Sharp Plasmacluster State-of-the-business Press Conference
Sharp held a press conference at their Tokyo Ichigaya building today to announce the business status of their vast line of ion air purifiers and purifier-integrated products under their Plasmacluster brand, invented in 2000. Their fourteen-line thirty-four-model brand reached thirty million units last December, after a near-exponential growth that saw an entire third of their ten-year sales in just the last two years. Sharp’s marketing research found that domestic brand recognition increased 31.1% from April ’09 to April ’10.
Sharp’s vision for the future of their Plasmacluster line is its appearance in public spaces, such as trains, hotels, and pachinko parlors; as well as increased saturation in the home and on one’s person. They also plan on expanding its international reach, having reached a hundred countries – almost double in the last two years – with such products as a deodorizer module for motorbike helmets in southeast Asia – “because Indonesia and Vietnam have a large motorcycle population” – and just-as-obnoxious localized versions of their brandname jingle.
All in all a boring press release in press conference form. Fellow writer Ben.Z will come back in two and a half hours or so to report on another, albeit awesomely exciting, press conference by Sharp subsidiary iDEEP.
