Don’t eat this cake, it’s my phone!

In Japan girls traditionally offer chocolates to the guys they like on Valentine’s day (or to their bosses, colleagues, classmates as “giri-choco”, a mix of charity and social obligation you’ll never witness outside of Japan). It represents the biggest revenue of the year for chocolate companies here (that incidentally are also the ones who brought the Valentine’s Day tradition from Europe during the 1950s, the rumor says).
Understandably, many companies are planning on surfing the “love wave”, including Strapya, well-known manufacturer of plastic food, and their new slightly-more-than-cumbersome iPhone case, made in the shape of a chocolate cake. I, for one, would be disappointed to receive a chocolate cake, only to realize after damaging my teeth that it’s actually the least practical iPhone case ever made. Still I must admit it looks quite realistic (hence the hypothetical damaged teeth) and that might be why it’s also quite expensive (3990 yen). Honestly I don’t think that this carefully crafted masterplan to rule the japanese iPhone case market will succeed this year, but it was definitely worth trying and it made me smile.
