Nice review. I liked the software rant. Its one that I think a lot of us have gone through :D Just a few questions. How heavy is this anyway? Does it feel solid or cheap? How often does the fan turn on?

I’m looking forward to more video reviews. Thanks.

    1. can you pls do another video review and show us the following:

    1. Usability of the keyboard..how responsive the keys are.
    2. Skype use
    3. Bluetooth headset use.
    4. can you show the screen in different DPIs, make the font big and small and show us how it looks.
    5. lastly show us some multitasking and how fast the US is?

I already make some video yesterday, there is not everything you asked (sorry), but well you will see

The important thing is that you should go for the UX90 with a 1.2GHz CPU there is a HUGE difference between the UX50 and its 1.0GHz

Thank you Daimaou, I have been searching the internet for some actual reviews of Sony UX, there are tons of "reviews" by people who have never seen it and "review" it based on press releases, but it is hard to find some hands-on information. Your review was exactly what I have been looking for, I am looking forward to the next video!

I tried a demo unit on the weekend. The keys were a real dissapointment. They are basically flush with the slide out section and give very little feedback. The enter key is especially horrible. I guess for thumbing its ok. The unit as a whole felt very nice in my hands. I’m hoping someone will get hold of one and load MS Tablet PC OS onto it and review it as a UMPC. I had a feeling though that the screen wasn’t too accurate when using the pen, but that could be due to the in-store demo unit not being calibrated properly.

wait to see the Video of tomorrow !

    How GeekStuff4U succeed to make a UX50 1Ghz booting 15sec quicker than a UX90 1.2GHz…

But basically this is a good product but SONY changed it into a crappy product with 0 optimization ! And the Calibration is really OK here, not as perfect as a TPC but well

Now The sad point that the OS is not a Tablet PC true… and I am waiting for the ASUS UMPC… OH YEAH ! (Which will be sold on GeekStuff4U too )

can you pls atleast tell us abt the keyboard and skype?

  • Daimaou

Well Skype work well, the Video mode is "OK" but don’t expect to run other things while “Skyping" Not for the Keyb… well 2 choices

    1) U’d better have thin finger
    2) Get some nails

But really this is OK, well just for quick typing otherwise forget about it

if the keyboard is that bad then can you tell us:
    1. If one can scribble handwritten emails? i.e. send emails as an attachment in your own handwriting, either converting them to text or better still NOT converting them?

    2. does voice command work on office applications through bluetooth or through a voice recognition software like dragon?

  • athreya
