Crashbaby: Keihin Tohoku Line LCD

Crashbaby: Keihin Tohoku Line LCD

Let’s start the day off with a crashbaby post!

This is the Keihin Tohoku line on the vast JR East network, easily identifiable by its light blue stripe and color designation on maps and signs. It serves three prefectures and runs parallel to the Yamanote line on the latter’s east-most reach, and is used by many commuters and tourists to get to such areas as Yokohama, Tokyo, and Omiya.

Such a train line in a country proud of its by-the-minute public transportation is usually expected by passengers to be operating in perfect condition, so when something breaks, it’s always a hoot. One of the two LCD screens above the doors, which displays infographics like upcoming stations, train car locations, and train destinations was broken; the other screen next to it, which displays silent commercials all day long, was fine, as were all other pairs of LCD screens that I could see.

Video below. Yes, I know there’s a huge diffused spot of dust on my lens. Sue me.
