Counterfeit HTC website hocking counterfeit HTC phones
With more and more of China getting connected to the internet, it seems reasonable that consumers would grow more aware of the abundance of counterfeit goods flooding their markets, and gain interest in online shopping. This considered it is not all that surprising to see a totally counterfeit website set up to sell said fake goods.
The knockoff follows the general layout of the original HTC China website, in a less sophisticated way, and includes buttons that are actually just un-clickable images (checkout the “select country” and “search” in the top right and all the footer navigation). The more you look through the site, the less professional it looks (the fonts don’t always match), but to the unknowing, it may be hard to detect. Perhaps best of all is the section that warns consumers about counterfeit products and how to identify them. The credibility goes right down the tube when one looks at the URL itself; the bogus site doesn’t even spell “Asia” correctly. Go on, have a little chuckle.
The address for HTC China’s Official site is http://www.htc.com/cn/, and not http://www.htc-aisa.com.
