Geeky Electric Hand Warmers: A Mix of Two Japanese Traditions

Japan, famous for electric hand warmers and all things geeky, is home to Takara Tomy Arts, who have come up with electric hand warmers called E-Kairo printed with famous fictional characters from TV, movies, and Japanese pop culture.
These hand warmers – which look curiously like a second-generation iPod nano, by the way – can be charged by USB, and buyers can select from 1) a black model with Darth Vader on one side and the Star Wars logo on the other; 2) a blue one with R2D2 on one side, also with a Star Wars logo on the opposite side; 3) a pink Hello Kitty model; and a Rilakkuma one in gold. A two-hour charge allows these hand warmers to keep a 40°C or 104°F temperature for three to four hours, and each version comes with a themed cloth case.
