Let’s Visit Tokyo – Quick walk Yasukuni

Benoa-san‘s Canon S95 is giving us a quick overview of the rather popular but also highly controversial Yasukuni Shrine. This Shrine (Temple) is dedicated to soldiers or anyone who died fighting for the Japanese Emperor mainly during the 2nd world war. While we cannot condemn anyone fighting for their belief and country or simply force to obey orders, some people “buried” there where convicted war criminals making the this Shrine a very sensitive piece of Japanese history that many foreign powers feel very strongly against any visit maid by any actual Japanese politician.

This short video will not cover the shrine by itself nor the political implication that this temple carry, but rather a brief “aperçu” of its main entrance and long pavement walk leading to the temple.

Note: The Yasukuni Shrine is a sensitive subject and we would like to keep this topic as clear as possible from any trolls. We will erase or close the comment section all together if anyone starts going “crazy” on this topic.
Please remember before posting below, that most probably, at a certain point of time in its history your own country may had committed numerous atrocities and other genocides that cannot be expunged and/or pardoned, even ones committed centuries ago.

Nice to see a Video taken with the S95, i have the same camera and i am happy with the images but i am not happy with the video quality. Canon should do something. But overall a nice to “always have in the pocket”, i think.

Nothing controversial about your video walkthrough – don’t worry.

As much as a I like seeing these videos from around Tokyo I wish you guys could be a bit more creative with your editing. The videos are probably often twice as long as they need to be, you hold nearly every shot for around 30 seconds, which is a really long time, especially if there is little or no movement. I’d say limit yourself to a maximum of 5-10 seconds per shot and if you want a longer video still try more angles, get up close to things and do some panning shots.

Instead of complaining why don’t you come and help us?

Please don’t take it the wrong way, I enjoy your content I’m just trying to offer some constructive criticism. I’ve only recently started to play around with video myself as I’m more of a photographer but I do have some videos I’ve shot in Japan if you’re interested (http://vimeo.com/7096471 for example). If I lived in Tokyo I’d be happy to help out, sadly most of the time I’m 6000 miles away :(

We are doing this during our “spare time” and luckily that Benoa-san is helping me lately coz without his help I will only have half day left to rest during my week end, so please remember that we doing this section just for the fun of it and that we have limited time for it

And it is very much appreciated. I actually like the fact that every shot is held for so long as well. I am especially pleased that the download option is back :)

Next time I get a chance to visit Japan I’d like to help you guys out :) I enjoy these videos.

      You are more than welcome!

I like the length. It makes me feel like I’m peacefully sitting there people-watching. Or just watching the clouds go by.
