New CRT screen from Samsung, the SyncMaster745MS

Everybody’s talking about LCD screens for the PC, but Samsung released a CRT today, more specifically a CDT (Color Display Tube) called SyncMaster745MS, and it’s the thinnest in the world as this 17″ screen is 385mm thin. This type of screens is still used as the colour reproduction is better than on some LCD screens.

    Sorry, it’s not 50mm thick, it’s 358mm thick!

(As a reader comment at Engadget says,
the angle of the picture shown above
just makes it look thinner than it really is.)

it better be priced $50 or less, cus there really is no reason to go with a radiation tube these days. can it swivel into portrait mode? can it be mounted on the wall? does it weigh less than 5 pounds? does it have features like built in usb hub or speakers? kinda hard to justify it on the basis of color.

Why get a CRT? CRTs are still popular within a few niches, specifically graphic designers, gamers and videophiles. I don’t give a shit how much it ways, I don’t care if I can’t mount it on the wall, I don’t care if it weighs 10kg. If the picture good, that’s all that matters. Nowadays, a CRT will beat pretty much any LCD quality wise.
