New near field communications (NFC) chips introduced by Samsung have embedded flash memory, low-power design, and advanced RF sensitivity. Used in smartphones, the chips offer instant peer-to-peer wireless connection via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi for rapid data transfers within short range (up to 10cm). NFC chips are not only efficient at transferring encrypted data between mobile devices, but they can also play the role of contactless smartcards and can read RFID tags. With smartphone markets growing, it is projected that NFC chips will present in 26% of phones by 2015.
