Launch of Junaio 2.5 raises the bar of AR browsing

There are a good handful of useful, entertaining, and reliable AR apps out there, but it seems that the latest release of Junaio makes them a leader in the augmented reality world. Living in Japan, I am very familiar with the Sekai Camera app for iPhone, which allows users to place text tags, photos, videos, and audio and suspend them in virtual space for other users to experience. Junaio takes it a step further by being able to identify objects and “glue” object specific real-time, dynamic, social and 3D information onto the object itself. The real difference though is the incorporation of commercial applications. This doesn’t just refer to creative advertising, which I don’t see as necessarily being that successful once the novelty wears off as users are required to initiate the app and look through their phone in order to receive content. The real interesting point, in my opinion, is the interactivity being made available in promotions or publications, where users can interact with 3D augmented features by scanning and clicking in order to retrieve more information that is relevant them. Junaio takes augmented reality to the next level by going beyond merely placing tags, but allowing for richer content development and implementation on a very wide and accessible scale. This looks really promising, so I just downloaded it, but without any of the new interactive content available, it looks a lot like Sekai Camera. Check out the gallery, the possibilities are giddifying.
