First: iPads in Japan are SIM-locked, making Japanese iPads the only iPads in the world that are tied down to one carrier. Let that sink in for a second.
Japan Communications Inc, the Japanese reseller of NTT Docomo cell bandwidth and provider of SIM cards for unlocked (imported) iPhone 4, have announced today a new contract package for imported unlocked 3G iPads, the b-microSIM Platinum Service (but BYOiPad). With only data packet access and no voice comm, a six-month contract goes for 29,880 JPY while a 12-month contract costs 56,160 JPY.
The new service will be available from the 1st of December.
Here’s an article about why Japan Communications waited till now to offer this amazing service.
