Hitachi Global Storage Technologies announced that they have started shipping their new solid state drives under their Ultrastar line of enterprise-class storage drives for servers and workstations. The Ultrastar SSD400S series was developed in conjunction with Intel Corporation, bringing HGST’s hard drive technologies and Intel’s NAND flash research together to create a drive that can read 535 MB and write 500MB per second on the SAS (serial attached SCSI) interface model.
The Ultrastar SSD400S come in 400, 200, and 100 GB models with 6GB/s SAS or 5GB/s FCAL interfaces, and are currently only available to OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). HGST plan to move to mass production in 2011.
