MDR-CD900ST, new audio headset by Sony

Sony announced the release of a new HiFi headset for your MP3 player (or any other audio device for that matter) on May 10th 2006. This MDR-CD900ST is in fact the first high end mini headset from the EX Monitor range, and it use a 13.5mm speaker (CCAW) that offers 16Ω, 196dB/mW on a 5 to 25kHz range. as you can see on the third picture, the shape is designed to offer the best fit to your ear. Personally I’m not a big fan of this type of headphones and I never feel at ease with them, especially when I’m eating and listening to music at the same time… but maybe that’s just me…

Might have to give these a try!
The last pair of sonys I bought are falling appart.

I did recenly buy some Audio Technica in ear headphones that are pretty good. Expensive too, 15.000 yen.

I wonder how much these new sony ones will cost?

I’m a big fan of the canal inear headphones, i can have the volume much lower and I can block out the background noise of the subways and station jingles with ease. Old type ipod style headphones suck! and they get painfull after a while!

I have a pair of the sony’s and they are great, but if u tap the wire, the vibrations go directly to the ear, so u can hear your wire slapping against your jacket.

And I guess u can hear yourself chewing as well, but I think u are just wierd for not liking that!!

I quite like the fact that these have those silicon plugs at the end.

It should help to drown out noise and keep them in your ear rather than falling all over the place and getting tangled arround some short school girl runing in front of you!

The fact that in ear headphones tend to fall off is the worst thing about them. These might be a bit better.

Those look like some hot headphones, but I are they on sale yet, cause I can’t seem to find em anywhere :\. Can anyone hook me up with a link to a site that sells it?

9mms feel good, but having an extra bit sticking out from the silicon maybe a bit awkward…

my Sony MDR-EX71SL wires are torn and dont look good after fixing them with gaffer tape, so i dunno if i can trust sony again…the quality was so crap, also too they were the Made in Japan ones, not the Made in China ones…

Also according to the diagram, the sound reproduction isnt going directly into the earbud extension, more like into the housing rather through the silicon. Compare to the 9mm, the sound is directly output through into the silicon to the ear, whilst the 13mm doesnt look as direct.

But i’ll c if im gonna buy these earphones in the near future, i dunno if i can trust sony again…
