Third up in Fujitsu’s new cell phone lineup is the SMART series F-03C, another clamshell form factor cell phone with a waterproof body positioned more for business users (to the F-01C’s high specs, and the F-02C’s fashion/style leanings). It comes with a 12.2 megapixel camera powered by Sony’s Exmor for mobile CMOS sensor and a Milbeaut Mobile engine, a document viewer with support for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files (including Office Open XML formats), and a fingerprint scanner for additional security.

What pops out first and foremost on this cell phone is the 2.0-inch display on the front cover of the phone, as well as the plus sign-shaped line of illuminating dots underneath the display. Texts, schedules, bookmarked webpages (i-mode only), music, one-seg TV, and the camera can be used all from this screen without opening the phone, with the illuminating dots providing a touch-sensitive D-pad to control the display with. Received texts can be reviewed quickly without opening the clamshell, allowing users to project less of an I’m-ignoring-you-and-looking-at-my-phone vibe – in business meetings, for example. The camera can also be used from this screen – both still and video – with a hardware shutter button on the right side of the phone (doubling as a sort of sleep button for the touch-sensitive interface when not in camera mode).

The first 10,000 purchasers of this phone on Docomo’s online shop can customize the bar along the bottom of the main screen, choosing a strip from one of eleven colors and patterns and even printing their own name on it, to make the world’s one and only cell phone; as well as the springloaded push-to-open-the-clamshell button on the left side of the screen, which can be selected from 18K gold, amethyst, onyx, or white zirconia.

The phone comes in four colors: brown, and black, with a straight brushed metal pattern; purple, with a circular brushed metal pattern; and white.
