4 New GSM from Pantech
4 new GSM phones, not for Europe but for Vietnam! Models are the PG-1400, the PG-3600, the 8000 and the GB-300L.
SEOUL, March 28, 2006: Pantech Group – the number two mobile phone manufacturer in South Korea – announced today that it has signed a groundbreaking agreement to supply GSM handsets to Glory Star, the second largest cell phone retailer in Vietnam, as part of its plans to boost its presence in the rapidly growing South East Asian market.
Under the terms of the agreement, Pantech will supply four of its most popular GSM models, each featuring a range of advanced, easy to use applications, to Glory Star. The handsets to be supplied are the PG-1400 bar-type camera phone, the PG-3600, part of the distinctive Pantech ‘Slim-series’ of phones, the PG-8000 ‘Dica-Phone’ and the stylish GB-300L model.
Sung-Kyu Lee, President & CEO of Pantech&Curitel Communications, Inc., said: “Vietnam has one of the fastest growing economies, both in South East Asia and globally, and will be a key focus for our worldwide expansion strategy, going forward.”
“Vietnam is a typical open market, where 95% of the handsets sold are handled by major distributors like Glory Star. That’s why we attach special importance to our relationship with Glory Star. We plan to introduce a full-line up of handsets in Vietnam and, starting from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, we will roll out series of marketing activities to build mindshare among consumers,” Mr. Lee said.
Of the phones to be supplied to Glory Star, the PG-1400 is designed to provide users with a combination of attractive design and sophisticated functionality, while the PG-3600 is aimed at those consumers looking for a stylish yet slim and durable handset, with a wide range of applications.
The PG-8000 has been created to look like a digital camera (the “dica” look) and features a 2 mega pixel camera and a wide, horizontal LCD display, whereas the stylish GB-300L model has been designed as an ergonomic, bar-type color phone with a sleek appearance, aimed particularly at the young generation.
The expansion by Pantech into Vietnam, which reported an economic growth rate of 7.5% last year and had a cellular phone subscriber base of 7.3 million in 2005, is just the latest stage of the company’s development in South East Asia.
Pantech, which entered Vietnam last year, expects to sell 100,000 units in the market this year, as part of its projected sales of around 500,000 GSM handsets in South East Asia during 2006.
