The MD is not dead… it still moves a bit: the MZ-RH1

Sony has announced a new MD player, or more specifically a Hi-MD player, the MZ-RH1. It’s a superb design with looks that kill. You can hook it up to your PC but ALSO to a Mac via USB 2.0. On top of the device, you get a very classy OLED screen. The MZ-RH1 measures 87.7×17.3×87.7 and weighs 106g. This player really makes me doubt whether I should switch back to MD and het rid of the MP3 players. Small question though: anyone knows a good software to transfer MP3 files onto a MD without using SonicStage?

    That this unit is:

    (a) A PCM Recorder not simply an mp3/music codex player
    (b) It can upload old SP recordings from one’s older MD collections
    (c) It can record in PCM(that’s not compressed same as CD), Atrac3+, and the older SP.
    (d) This unit is meant for Live recording and can do that very well.
(e)It has a line in(stereo and digital), Mic in, and a line out/via the menue and the headphone out.
    (f) Both MD and HI-MD are used all the time in Japan, no one here ever ask if MD is dead? That’s the same as asking are door knobs dead? In both cases the answer is of course not everybody uses them in Japan.
    (g) The MZ-RH1 has in fact sold out all over Japan! Just ask anyone at any store in Akihabara or else where in Japan. For example it has sold very well at Yodobashi, Loax, Bic Camera, Sakuraya, and Denkodo. The former HI-MD model the MZ-RH10 was number one at Yodobashi for over 13 months and I am sure that this unit may also be so.

    See you laters,
    Mikami
