MMC OneNAND, 10x faster than a classic MMC

More from Samsung with these MMC cards that use the OneNAND technology, which should, according to the manufacturer, provide results that are 10x better than those of a regular MMC, for example a 9.3Mbps writing speed and 68Mbps reading speed. These cards are available in sizes between 32 and 256MB, but the 512MB and 1GB cards should be on the market quite soon.

Samsung Enhances Performance of Memory Cards with OneNANDTM Fusion Memory
Taipei, Taiwan – March 21, 2006: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the leader in advanced semiconductor technology, announced at the third annual Samsung Mobile Solution Forum that its popular OneNAND™ high performance fusion memory will be offered for the first time in external memory cards.
An alternative to standard NAND flash memory cards, the OneNAND-based memory cards available in 32MB through 256MB MultiMediaCards offer twice the performance of comparatively-sized conventional MMC cards and 10 times that of alternative memory cards. 1GB and 512MB densities will be available by the end of this year.
By applying OneNAND to memory cards, Samsung offers the optimal solution for boosting mobile phone and digital camera performance.
OneNAND is a sophisticated device that incorporates buffer memory (known as “data RAM”), a controller and NAND flash memory on a single chip. NAND, by itself, stores data at a relatively slow speed, but the new OneNAND configuration dramatically speeds up overall performance. OneNAND writes data at 9.3 MB per second and reads at 68 MBps.
The multimedia card with OneNAND onboard also uses a controller made by Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Division.
