DVD and HDD recorder with 800GB of storage space

Hitachi and Sharp had the biggest… until now. 500GB of storage space on a digital video recorder has been beaten now by Pioneer with this DVR-DT100, that offers 800GB! It has 2 TV tuners (1 analog and 1 digital), it supports DVD-DL and RAM, has an HDMI connector, but you will not be able to record videos in HD though. The 90 and 50 versions have a 500 or 250GB HDD. On top of the yummy specs, it’s nicely designed too.

Thank you to one of our reader who just remind us that Hitachi had a 1TB Recorder, info can be found here

Hi I am sorry, but Hitachi has had the 1TB recorder out for some time.
So Pioneer is not the largest. HITACH DH1000W is a 1TB recorder.
Although the hardware in that machine is a piece of crap.
I prefer my X-300 even if it only has 400GB. At least the MPEG2 encoder is up to spec.

    No problem
    Just thought you should know.
I played with the DH1000W for a couple of days but returned it.
Mostly due to the really standard and cheap ram-dac the quality wasn’t too hot. (The buttons also felt like they would fall off if you pressed them too hard) So I changed it for a X300 from Panasonic.

If you buy a HDD recorder for yourself, check out if the ram-dac they have in it is a standard one or a tweaked/created for the device one. If it’s a cheap standard one, you can bet your 2000 yen notes on it that the rest of the components are crap as well.
