KDDI, the company behind one of the three primary mobile phone carriers in Japan, announced twenty-two new handsets as its semiannual new phone lineup for autumn 2010 – spring 2011.

Along with the three Android smartphones come fourteen featurephone models, highlights of which I’ve plucked out and covered below.

EXILIM CA006 (See Gallery):

A phone with a 13.16 megapixel EXILIM camera from Casio Computer, with a waterproof and dust-proof body and a 3.2-inch wVGA IPS LCD screen and microSDHC card slot. Software include LISMO Music Video Book, au Smart Sports, EZ Navi Walk, one-seg TV, and contactless IC payment. Has wifi, Bluetooth, and infrared. 128g at 110x50x16.9mm, in Vivid Pink, Pearl White, and Bitter Black.

AQUOS SHOT SH010 (See Gallery):

Sharp’s AQUOS featurephone with a 14.10 megapixel CCD camera, a two-axis swivel neck (like a convertible tablet PC) and a 3.4-inch touchscreen display, and a waterproof body. The phone can upload photos and video directly to Picasa, though only on wifi. Software include LISMO Music Video Book, au Smart Sports, EZ Navi Walk, one-seg TV, and contactless IC payment. Has wifi, Bluetooth, and infrared. 142g at 112x51x17.8mm in Sprint Blue, Phantom Black, and Alpine White.

BRAVIA Phone S005 (See Gallery):

Sony Ericsson’s handset with Sony’s TV brand name, BRAVIA. Supports KDDI’s new higher-speed cellular service, WIN HIGH SPEED (9.2Mbps downstream, 5.5Mbps upstream), due to go online this winter. Powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the 3.2-inch, wVGA TFT LCD opens in two different directions – lengthwise and sideways – handy for watching one-seg TV, as well as TV recorded on Sony’s Blu-ray/HDD DVR and transferred to the phone. Software includes LISMO Music Video Book, au Smart Sports, EZ Navi Walk, one-seg TV, and contactless IC payment. Has wifi, Bluetooth, and infrared. 145g at 111x51x18mm in Vivid Red, Sugar Pink, and Cool Blue.

iida X-RAY (See Gallery):

Coming from the iida line of design-oriented handsets is the X-RAY, a clamshell design featurephone with a see-through body made from a new polycarbonate resin, targeted at 20~40-year-old men. Supports WIN HIGH SPEED and comes with an 8.08 megapixel CMOS camera with autofocus and flash. Software includes LISMO, au Smart Sports, EZ Navi Walk, one-seg TV, and contactless IC payment. Has Bluetooth and infrared. 123g at 110x49x15.7mm in red, black, and blue.

G’zOne TYPE-X (See Gallery):

Another Casio offering, this rugged model clears the US DOD’s MIL-STD specifications regarding shock resistance. It comes with a 12.95 megapixel CMOS camera, a 3.2-inch wVGA IPS LCD display, and a 1.1-inch “memory LCD” screen on the cover to display the time and other useful information with very, very little power expenditure. Software includes LISMO Music Video Book, au Smart Sports, EZ Navi Walk, one-seg TV, and contactless IC payment. Has wifi, Bluetooth, and infrared. 179g at 125x52x21mm in green, red, and black.
