Punches from Robot All in the Name of Research

Researchers at the University of Ljubljana are working hard to figure our just how hard is to hard when taking blows from a robot. If only this kind of research were available in the world of Blade Runner, there’d be no need to fear the Nexus-6s. Fortunately for us, volunteers are taking abuse from a re-purposed machine on loan from Epson, all in the name of research. Is there a term with the opposite meaning of “sucker punch?” Since robots are ever present in our modern world, and are designed to work with humans, it is important to understand the speed and force at which they should be moving when in the vicinity of humans, in order to avoid serious accidents. Fear not for those volunteers though, they are only being tested for mild to moderate pain. The serious hits are being taken by an artificial human arm.
