Sanyo Consumer Electrics and TomTom NV, the Dutch carnav manufacturer, have teamed up to develop a new built-in car navigation system, Sanyo announced today. The new nav units, featuring a 5.8-inch touchscreen and Sanyo audio/video technology, as well as TomTom’s navigation and real-time traffic software, will be offered by Mazda as an option for its new Mazda5 compact van, to be sold in Europe, starting in 2011.

The car and navigation system are on display at the Paris Motor Show till the 17th of this month.

Tokyo, October 7, 2010 – SANYO Consumer Electronics Co., Ltd. (SANYO CE), a consolidated subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO), in cooperation with TomTom NV (TomTom), have developed a new built-in car navigation system. From the beginning of 2011, the new built-in car navigation system will be offered by Mazda as an option on its new Mazda5 compact van in Europe.

SANYO CE and TomTom have been working hand-in-hand to develop a built-in car navigation system which can take on global competition, since September 2009, by harnessing both TomTom and our strengths.

The new car navigation system features an integrated 5.8-inch touch screen monitor with SANYO’s audio video solution and a communication module. TomTom’s car navigation technology, “TomTom® Live Service”, including “TomTom® HD Traffic”, a real-time traffic service and “TomTom® local search with GoogleTM”, provides customers with real-time information.

Both Mazda Motor Europe and TomTom exhibit their all-new Mazda5 and car navigation system at the Paris Motor Show 2010 in Paris, October 2-17, 2010.

Main Features
- Integrated 5.8-inch touch screen monitor
- Map of Europe (45 countries)
- Latest map guarantee
- Voice control for navigation system
- CD and MP3 capability, USB cable and front AUX *Optional: iPod® adapter
- Bluetooth? hands-free dialling
- LIVE services, including TomTom’s award winning HD Traffic ™. The HD Traffic navigation system combines the world’s most accurate traffic information with dynamic route guidance technology.
It is the most accurate as it covers more road kilometers on both secondary and main roads. It reports traffic jams with higher accuracy and also refreshed more frequently than any other service, with updates every two minutes. Drivers can stay ahead with up-to-date speed camera information on both fixed and mobile cameras en route, as well as live weather updates and local search which is sent directly to the SIM card of your in-dash system.
- Updatability: the in-dash multi media and navigation solution can be continuously updated. This means anything from maps, to new software to voices can be downloaded to the device at any time. Given the fact that roads can change quickly and unexpectedly, giving customers access to the freshest maps is important for the in-dash navigation space.

TomTom is the world’s leading provider of location and navigation solutions and in the USA has offices in Redwood, Concord, Lebanon and Southfield. Headquartered in the Netherlands it has over 3,000 employees worldwide. More than 40 million people use its solutions every day, in the form of dedicated portable navigation device (PNDs), in-dash car systems or tracking and tracing solutions for fleet management. In addition, hundreds of millions of people use TomTom’s digital maps on the internet or mobile phones.

In 2009, TomTom reported €1.5 billion in revenues and a €340 million net cash flow from operating activities. More information about TomTom can be found at
