42″ Full HD TV without HDMI? What are the Japanese thinking?

Here’s a very good example of a product that deserves to be smashed before it’s even sold… why? Well, this 42″ TV looks very interesting at first sight with its Full HD (1920×1080), 800:1 ratio, 550cd/m2 brightness, 12ms LCD screen, 178 degrees viewing angle and 1700 EUR price. HD on a 42″ panel at such a price sounds really good indeed, but… it doesn’t have HDMI and not even DVI!!! So you get D4 (720p), S-Video and RGB, but no digital tuner. You can hook one up if you’re lucky, but how on earth will you connect your BR or HD-DVD player… and having no HDMI laos means that the TV is not HDCP either… so this really is a very easy way to bin 1700 EUR in 30 seconds flat!
