Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, based in San Jose, California, have announced two new mobile hard drives available with eyepopping 750, 640, and 500 GB capacities. Hitachi GST’s first models that use Advanced Format, a new data storage format standard drawn up this year, which allows for more storage space by increasing the size of the sectors on the hard drive. The Travelstar 5K750 rates at 5,400 RPM, while the 7K750 goes up to 7,200 RPM; both are SATA drives. The 5K750 is already available in Japan; the 7K750 will be avaiable in the first quarter of next year.
