Yet another VoIP or Skype handset by Elecom

The president of Livedoor seems to be locked up for the moment (Livedoor is the promotor and representative of Skype in Japan). It’s a long story, but it seems that Livedoor wanted to take over Fuji TV with the money of a US bank, but they withdrew their offer and Fuji TV took over Livedoor in turn. This was going to be the success story of a your businessman that wanted to change everything in Japan (except for the dodgy practices of his forefathers of course) but got slapped. I won’t shed any tears for him though, because as president of a company, you need to be clean… but hey, it all happened, the problem now is that Japanese maybe reluctant to trust younger managers/business owners… and that’s quite bad news for the honest hard-working ones, because they will have a hard time too now because of this. So thank you, Mr horie! The story already had its first dead person too, one of the managers could not cope with the whole thing and decided to end his life instead of facing the consequences in court. In a way, I hope for Mr Horie that he will be able to prove his innocense, but the whole store puts a stain on the hard work of your entrepreneurs in Japan.

So, you wanted news on a VoIP and Skype phone, but you ended up in the Justice and People’s columns of the newspapers eh? So what about the product you ask? Well, it’s all in the title. Yet another USB VoIP phone that hogs the audio jack of your PC…

So, not only does it look like an old carphone, it also takes up THREE of my precious jacks?? (including a USB, no less). One of the reasons I use VoIP is so I don’t have to talk with such an awkward piece of antique tech stuck to one side of my face.

Speaking of going back in time… Horiemon, wow. Big-talking IT millionaires in sports cars are soooo 1998.
