The HTC Universal gets to Japan
According to PhoneDaily, the HTC Universal should arrive in Japan on the DoCoMo network in 2006. This Japanese provider has a habit of offering Windows CE PDA’s under the Sigmarion name, and the arrival of the WillCom Zero-3 was super-hyped over here. A bit normal, the Japanese have discovered the first REAL smartphone. Faced with the success of the Zero-3, DoCoMo wanted to offer a Wireless 3G/2G PDA that is compatible with Exchange. If there are readers from DoCoMo that pass by on Akiba (as Pantech&Curitel does from Korea), I can confirm that the HTC Universal works very well in Japan with a 3G DoCoMo sim and a Vodafone sim. For me and all the others in Japan, this is some GREAT news, because we’ll be able to get the machine at a low price, get rid of the Japanese ROM, install an English ROM on it and get rid of the SIM protection… thank you DoCoMo!
As you can see, my HTC Universal is working on the Vodafone and DoCoMo UMTS network, and I really like the fact that fiddling around with a DoCoMo ROM, I should be able to get the video conference up and running on my HTC ![]()
