[4 of 4] Sony New Product Announcement: Dock Speakers and Component Stereos

Sony’s Walkman line of portable audio products have a long and wide history. It started with the original cassette player built in 1978, and was, for a while, a colloquial description for portable audio players (the same way tissues are called Kleenexes in the US). Sony continues the line with today’s announcement of new additions to two lines of portable media players, as well as dock speakers.

Along with the A850 and S750 series Walkmans, Sony are introducing two new component stereo docks and three new dock speakers, all to go on sale on the 9th of October.
CMT-L7D: With its S-Master full digital amp, this device will emit a deep bass and live-like sound from its two independent speakers. It accepts music from a Walkman, DVD, CD, USB thumb drive, or memory card; its 9-inch screen can display photos or movies from any of those same sources as well.

NAS-V5: Sony added the white color to this line, capable of copying music from CDs to a Walkman. Along with the S-Master digital amp is a 32-bit Digital Signal Processor; it also has a wired Ethernet port and a wifi antenna to tune into Internet radio stations. 50,000 JPY.

RDP-NWSK8: Dual speakers adorn the ends of this dock speaker, giving it a look not unlike a traditional boom box. The front faceplate of this dock, however, can be replaced with any of four “graphic sheets” that helps it blend in with its surroundings or its user’s mood – one of which is a blank white “Free Style” sheet that budding artists and the artistically-handicapped alike can go crazy on. 40,000 JPY.

RDP-NWD300: A subdued and compact design, this dock can be placed on desks or right next to PCs. Specifically engineered to cut down on bass tremors, this dock also uses high-quality amps and condensers that negate the necessity of digital processing to clean up sound. 20,000 JPY.

RDP-NWR100: For pool-side music and relaxing in the shower, this waterproof enclosure has built-in speakers. It comes in blue and pink, it can be powered with three AA batteries or directly by the Walkman. 6,000 JPY.

All prices are approximates, and are estimated retail prices.
