Apple’s fall 2010 event

Apple's fall 2010 event

Yesterday, Apple’s new lineup has been announced. As usual, you can find the streaming on Apple.com and read the mass of articles on various website and spend the day on it.
Here, at Akihabara news, we decided to condense everything in one page with all the highlights to make your life easier!
So, let’s see together what is unveiled.

The new Apple TV:
Apple has revealed its streaming-only new Apple TV. Forget the iTV, the entire system is different. 1/4 of the actual size, it features 802.11n built in with HDMI, Ethernet, optical audio and even the power supply on the backside.
The smaller size is partly because it no longer utilizes a spinning disk hard drive for local storage. Instead, a flash memory handles that task. However, the small size low cost flash memory is more for buffering from other locations than to hold your media.
The new video content model is “rental only”. You’ll get first-run HD Movie rentals for only $4.99, and now HD TV shows are only $.99. And, as you might expect, all of the content will continue to get cheaper as time passes. There is no syncing involved, just streaming. You can also play media from a computer nearby, probably powered by iTunes…
The price? $99 and it will be available in 4 weeks, with pre-orders starting today.

The iPod Nano:
As expected after the new casings were leaked, the new iPod Nano gave away his click wheel to be replaced by a new touchscreen interface. It is now 46% smaller and 42% lighter.
Hard volume buttons on the side and a clip on the back provide the minimal hardware accouterments to that multitouch touchscreen. It comes also with VoiceOver, FM radio, Nike+, Pedometer, support for 29 languages, and 24-hour audio playback.
Available next week, It will cost $149 for 8GB, and $179 for 16GB in 7 different colors, pre-orders starting today.

The iPod Shuffle:
The new iPod Shuffle might look familiar to you. It’s normal, because it’s basically the second and the third generation combined. Smaller than the second generation, the button is back, it will also let you access VoiceOver, Genius mixes and playlists.
Featuring a 15 hours battery life and 2 GB of storage, it will cost you $49, pre-order starting today and shipping next week.

The iPod Touch:
Same as the iPod Nano, we’ve hearing murmurs and leaks about the new iPod Touch, and finally, it’s pretty much what we expected.
The two big improvements are the Retina screen and the dual cameras.
The Retina Display screen (960×640, 3.5″) and the A4 processor are the same found in the iPhone 4. Featuring a 3-axis gyroscope, separate volume buttons, a front facing camera and FaceTime support (over Wi-Fi!), iOS 4.1 and a rear camera that does 720p at 30FPS, but only takes pictures at 960×720 (?!)
Available with up to 64GB of space at $399, you can pro-order today for first shipping next week.

Apple iTunes 10:
Not a huge surprise here, along with the new iPod, Apple has released his new iTunes 10. However, the surprise is Ping, a social network that’s Apple’s take on a music-oriented social network. It will let you follow people (including artists), establish a “circle of friends,” post comments, check out custom song and album charts, and even find over 17,000 concert listings.
Coming with a new logo, it’s available to download today on Apple’s site.

iOS 4.1 and 4.2:
The iOS 4.1, available next week for free, is going to bring a lot of bug fixes to the table, including that proximity sensor issue, as well as overall performance on the iPhone 3G, and Bluetooth connectivity. The new features include High Dynamic Range photos, HD video uploads over WiFi, TV show rentals, and Game Center.
The iOS 4.2, unlike iOS 4.1, is meant primarily for one device: the iPad. Hello multitasking! Game Center and HDR photos is coming too, but you’re also getting AirPlay which allows you wireless printing, stream music and video over Wi-Fi.
Apple will be launching iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices in November.
