SANYO Completes New Factory for Li-ion Batteries for Eco-friendly Vehicles
Sanyo just announced they had completed construction of their new plant dedicated to Lithium-ion batteries that will be used for electric vehicles in its Kansai Plant. With a total floor area of 42,831m2, Sanyo plans to produce 1 Million cells per month (At the beginning). The total cost for this construction is approximately estimated to 13 Billion yens.
Note that Sanyo has already been supplying nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) to Ford, Honda and Volkswagen, as well as co-developped NiMH batteries PSA Peugeot Citroën.
Lastly, the Japanese manufacturer also announced they are co-developing lithium-ion batteries for HEV with the Volkswagen group.
After having broken its Own Guinness Record, and powered Yokohama EV race car for the Pikes Peak, Sanyo has decided to move up a gear in order to be sure to establish itself on Eco-Friendly batteries market…
