[Video] Hitachi EMIEW 2 gets upgraded!

Hitachi latest Wonder, the Robot EMIEW 2, which actually stands for Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Work-mate, received last june some nice little upgrade, and if unfortunately we could not attend the press conference organized by Hitachi, we have today however some nice footage of these upgrades.
Among the many upgrades that EMIW 2 received, the 2 majors ones are Voice Recognition, and adaptive suspension control technology giving EMIEW 2 better stability while crossing a door, elevator doors or even cables laying down the floor.

It is also interesting to notice that our bipedal robot has a maximum speed of 6km/h in order to match people walking skills and it is used daily in Hitachi research center to carry documents / letter from one department to another.

This does look awesome and I’ve got to comment that the current anime “Asobi ni Ikuyo” in its 2nd eps introduced “Assistaroids” characters that look a lot (to me anyway) like this robot, http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab31/toyNN/assistaroid.jpg

Maybe the designer at Hitachi watch too much anime … or too little.
