IIJ, (Internet Initiative Japan) Booth at Wireless Japan 2010, was definitively not the biggest we visited, but was really worth the time we spent there. Among different products there were introducing, 3 catches our attention with :
The Opticon H-21. Definitively not Japanese, since Opticon is a European based company, this new Smartphone (Windows 6.5) + HandyTerminal combo bring the best of both world now to Japanese users. If you are working in the data collection business or need to keep track of many different goods/products, you know that the only way for you to go is to get a portable terminal with bar code reader, and the H-21 is just that with everything you would expect from your average Smartphone running Windows 6.5.
The H-21 comes with 256MB of ROM and 256MB of RAM, has a 3.8” VGA display, a QWERTY Keyboard, a Bar Code Reader, IRDA, Bluetooth, WiFI BG, HSDPA/HSUPA, GPS, a 3.2Mpix CMOS Camera and also happen to be chock resistant.
Basically the H-21 does pretty much everything in order to give to its users the most versatile tool ever.
The PIT. Running on Windows CE 6.0 R3, the Pit is your average PDA (512MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, 4.3” Touch-screen, WIFi, Bluetooth… And is designed to be an “empty-shell” that you will later on work on building up your own application to match your requirement. Of course if you do not have any programing Skills, IIJ will sure to find a solution for you, but, nevertheless, the PIT is a device made to match any requirement you may have form Bar code reader, to POS, to IC Card reader you name it.
The Pocketta, is a simple IC Card reader with a display that can be used for pretty much everything from company Timecard, to POS, to give information to customers/patient… Compact, elegantly design, Pocketta is a nicely done product that will definitively find its place pretty much everywhere.
