R.I.P. Young Microsoft KIN…

Microsoft Kin

Remember Microsoft’s social networking feature phones the KIN One and KIN Two running on a totally new KIN OS that we covered back in April? After less than 2 months of their US launch Microsoft announce that they canceled the launch of these devices in Europe and the KIN team have joined  the Windows Phone 7 team. The company also state that they will continue selling the current KIN phones in the US via Verizon. The reason for them to kill the KIN seems to be its unpopularity among the main reasons of which is their smartphones-level, expensive price tag without even being one.

I absolutely hope this does NOT mirror the future of Windows Phone 7!
I actually think that they may have cancelled KIN in order not to cannibalize on Phone7. I think they will recover most of their costs through the Windows Phone marketplace – and they may be able to use technology developed for KIN in those phones.
Anyway, looking forward to the new Windows.
