[Wrap-up] iPhone 4 got official!

There has finally come the day iPhone 4 has been officially unveiled! It was announced yesterday at WWDC 2010 in San Francisco at 07.00 a.m (June 8 02:00 a.m. Japan time). And we would like to offer you a brief summary of the highlights of the latest iPhone model:
iOS 4: The new OS is officially named as iOS 4 instead of iPhone OS 4
Design: It is 24% thinner (just 9.3mm thick) than iPhone 3GS and weighs 137 grams. Now it features a box-like design with stainless steel rims, which have integrated antenna, used as binding agents.
Display:
1) The new display boasts the same 3.5″ inch size but with 960 x 640 resolution LCD screen called “Retina Display” . It sports four times as many pixels as the iPhone 3GS thanks to the size of the pixels as just 78 micrometers wide and 326 pixels per inch which according to Apple is far denser than the human eye can distinguish.
2) It offers 800:1 contrast ratio, which is 4 times better than that of 3GS.
3) It also features IPS technology similar to iPad, which Steve Jobs called “a bit better than OLED”.
Video Chat:
It features a video call system built on open standards like SIP, H.264, and AAC allowing you to use either its new FaceTime Video Chat app or other video call apps.
Camera:
It now features a 5 megapixel Wi-Fi compatible front-facing camera (no 3G support, yet) as well as a rear camera with backside-illuminated 5 megapixel sensor, 5X digital zoom and LED flash.
Video recording: It is now capable of 720p / 30fps video recording with tap-to-focus function.
iMovie: Now it supports iMovie but you will need to pay $4.99 for access.
Battery Life: 40% improvement in battery life due to Apple’s A4 System-on-Chip processor used in iPad. Although it now comes with 16% larger battery, it allows for 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music.
Wi-Fi: Now it supports 802.11n.
3-axis gyroscope: Apple added 3-axis gyroscope in addition to the already existing accelerometer to improve motion control while playing games.
Microsoft’s Bing: Now you have the option to choose among Bing, Google or Yahoo as your default search provider.
Availability and Price: Offered in white or black, it will be released on June 24 retailing at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for 32GB.
*The iPhone 3G, 3GS, and the iPod touch will be able to get the new OS from June 21 but they won’t support all the features. And the Phone 3GS from now will only be available in 8GB with the official price point as $99, while 3G will disappear completely.
