Kakai, a California-based start-up company, showcased the prototype of their Knu Tablet at the 8th Annual Conference of D: All Things Digital, otherwise known as D8 (June 1 -June 3, 2010). Featuring two capacitive touch screen IPS displays (1440 x 900) of 14.1-inch size each, it weighs around 5.5 pounds. Geared specifically to be a textbook-replacement for students, it is equipped with Tegra 2 chip with 16GB of storage, is Linux-based and supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Once it will reach its final, fully-developed status, each screen will feature one battery offering a total of up to 8 hours of battery life, and it will have full internet browsing, support for Flash 10.1, as well as support for almost all types of e-Book formats, including PDF. What’s more, it will be coming with a stylus.

Although the price has not been set, yet, the developers are aiming for under $ 1,000 with pre-orders expected to begin this October.
