ASUS unveiled multitask-capable, CULV Intel Core 2 Duo-powered Eee Pads

Asus Eee Pad EP121

ASUS are going to showcase their new ultra-slim and light tablet devices, the Eee Pads, at the upcoming Computex (June 1-5). But ahead of the exhibition, they unveiled highlights of (apparently) the most interesting Eee Pad model, 12-inch EP121.
Packing Intel’s Core 2 Duo CULV CPU, it runs on Windows 7 Home Premium, it offers 10-hour battery life and a built-in webcam. What’s more, it is capable of multitasking and gives you two character-input choices, an embedded virtual keyboard or an hybrid keyboard/docking station.

More details to come after Computex..

Stay Connected and Multitask with the Eee Pad
Engineering excellence meets stunning design in the ASUS Eee Pad, an ultra-slim and light yet high-performance slate device designed to provide users with a real time cloud computing experience. The Eee Pad will be available in two configurations.

The 12″ Eee Pad EP121 is a full-featured slate computer that serves as a multimedia player, e-reader, and compact computing device. Powered by a CULV Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor and the Windows® 7 Home Premium operating system, it effortlessly handles multitasking tasks whether enabling users to check their email and calendars, have video conferences, or process Microsoft Word and Excel documents simultaneously. The ASUS Eee Pad EP121 offers two convenient modes of character input-an embedded virtual keyboard or an innovative hybrid keyboard/docking station design. All of this power is available in a personal computing device that delivers up to 10 hours of usage.

For users seeking additional mobility, ASUS is proud to present the 10” Eee Pad EP101TC that runs Windows Embedded Compact 7, which provides an engaging user experience and delivers instant connectivity to the Windows world. It also provides a familiar full-featured user experience across various connected devices and cloud computing services.

This looks sweet! This is what the iPad should have been!

This is where my pocket money is going.

The iPad killers are definitely coming!!!

I’m sure the “experience” won’t be as good, but hey, it might actually be useful!

Finally, a real tablet for people who want to do more than just surf the net, watch movies, Facebook, Twit all day long. It doesn’t need to be flawless or beautiful, but definitely needs to get the jobs done! My money is going here for sure!

I’d write it off as a laptop without a keyboard, but the battery life sounds impressive. What it really needs is a pile of applications designed for tablet use, which are a rarity on Windows.

I shudder to think what the price is going to be on this thing. Please let it be below $1000…

Just saw it yesterday at the Computex (http://bit.ly/9aNzr9) and I can say that techically/design side it can easily compete with the iPad. On the software side I’m not sure but we can guess that some people will come with nice tweaked version of Ubuntu/Linux (such as Jolicloud for instance).
