    The iPad killers are coming!!!

  • Zac

iPad killers? Where are they? Are they with the iPhone killers? Are they with the iPod killers?

I’ve seen some Asus models but the aspect ratio is all wrong. 16:9 ratio is the wrong ratio for a tablet. Do these manufacturers understand? Or are they just want to do something different than Apple for the sake of being different? Apple has the ratio correct.

I would like a tablet not running Windows thanks. Anything but Windows.

I really hope we get some decent Android tablets soon. I like the iPad but hate the lockdown, and in any event Apple needs some competition in this space to keep them honest.

Unfortunately it isn’t just a matter of scaling up a phone. Yes, the hardware needs to be scaled up, but the OS needs a bit of a rethink to make it feel comfortable (i.e. not like a phone with extra blank space on the screen) and apps need to have their interfaces reworked to make use of all the extra space. I’m sure it will happen in time, but we’re talking about three separate things that have to happen, and they’re under the control of three different groups of people; manufacturers (hardware), Google (OS), and app developers (app UI). I can’t imagine all of that is going to come together very quickly.
