Sony, KDDI, Asahi Shimbun, and Toppan Printing joint venture for eBook distribution

There can be several reasons why e-Books (books, comics, magazines…) seem to get more and more popular with numerous e-Book readers being introduced to the market. It can be out of environmental-concerns (de-forestation for paper), space-wise (physical books occupy space, inconvenient to carry), or just because the idea is cool. Whatever the reason is it is clear as day that e-Book are already set on their way to gain the high ground. And a country like Japan with a huge reading population could not resist timely-handling of this business within the framework of a neat system as according to yesterday’s announcement, Sony, KDDI, Asahi Shimbun and Toppan Printing will establish a joint-venture company around July 1, 2010 to form and manage a common e-Book distribution platform for the Japanese market. Leading Japanese publishers including Kondansha Ltd., Shogakukan Inc., Shueisha Inc support the initiative.
And also, looking from another perspective, a new company means new jobs. Keep in mind job-hunters!
